On Oct. 27-28, Mike Fevola, Ph.D., and Dr. Janet Drobits Windisch will run an introduction to polymer science course with special emphasis on the cosmetic industry. The two-day class will be held at the SCC national office in New York City.

Polymers represent one of the major classes of materials used in cosmetic formulations. There are a wide variety of polymers used in a broad range of functions in this industry and a basic understanding of polymer structure—property relationships is an essential tool for the cosmetic formulator. This course addresses the need to introduce formulators and suppliers to cosmetic polymers. Participants can expect to emerge from this course with knowledge of most of the polymers used in the industry, the reasons for their specific use in formulation, an introduction to the underlying theory, and information on industry trends.

Fevola is currently an associate research director and fellow at Johnson & Johnson Consumer & Personal Products Worldwide in Skillman, NJ, where he leads the Polymer & Surface Chemistry innovation platform. Drobits Windisch is the North American technical service manager for personal care at the Dow Chemical Company.
